David V. Tsu, Ph.D - President
Cofounder and president of Ming Scientific, LLC. He has a Ph.D. in Physics from NCSU (1989, Raleigh, NC), and is an internationally recognized expert on Infrared spectroscopy. During his 16 years in R&D at Energy Conversion Devices (1991-2007), as ECD’s chief spectroscopist (covering UV/Visible, Infrared, as well as Raman and Rayleigh scattering), he helped to develop a basic understanding of a wide range of materials of interest to ECD’s renewable energy and information technologies. These technologies cover photovoltaic devices (solar cells), Ni-metal hydride batteries, which are both critical components in renewable energy systems, and optical recording (e.g., DVD±RW, DVD-RAM, etc.). He developed extensive computer code and software to interpret optical measurements and for optical and thermal modeling of these devices, over 40 peer-reviewed journal publications, and holds 11 issued U.S. patents.
David is able to use this extensive background and knowledge to help client companies increase their energy efficiency, as well as to develop new products in this field. He has assembled a staff of physicist to transform studies of energy efficiency from an ad hoc process into a scientific process. This process involves three key elements: (1) solid data gathering and measurements; (2) modeling; and (3) prediction. Only by this process can the true benefits of energy efficiency be revealed. Our goal is to demonstrate that “going green” does in fact make financial sense, and that it will be a key element in the company’s competitive future.
